The Division Patch 1.1 Incursions

The Division Patch 1.1 Incursions

So The Division Patch 1.1 has been announced and discussed live on The Divisions Twitch channel tonight and I have to say I am feeling pretty hyped for the 12th of April.  There are a number of exciting things to cover from the announcement so lets just jump straight in at the deep end and begin with Incursions, the main event for lack of a better term within this patch.

Incursions

Main Points

  • New Gear Set Rewards
  • Hard and Challenging Difficulties
  • Gear Score Requirements
  • 4 Man
  • Drones added
  • No checkpoints
  • Unique Mechanics required

My Thoughts

They mentioned two difficulties Hard which will be the base level to start from and will have a recommended gear score but not a requirement and Challenge which will have a minimum required gear score to enter.  Hard will be difficult to complete but if I am honest I would be surprised if that is the case as they also have made many claims that challenging is also difficult but that is stretching the truth in my opinion, but we can live in hope.  I did however really like the sound of the new challenge level incursion that is coming which they say will require you to coordinate as a group and to have geared into specific trees to complete.  I like the sound of the drones to stop the standard everyone snipe from range and then move to next room and do the same.  The fact that it is 4 man while it may have the adverse effect of possibly feeling like a harder version of the missions, it is a plus for me as my friend list in game isn’t huge and I am sure there are others in the same boat and so it stops your social circle in game becoming a wall between you and the new end game content.  I am in two minds about the no checkpoint idea, I like the thought of not being able to surge the room till you get to next checkpoint but being punished for a mistake on last fight by resetting the whole incursion may feel a bit harsh.  Possibly I would of wanted less checkpoints rather than scrap them all but time will tell how punishing it feels.  New gear sets will be a reward of the new incursion which will then allow progression into the challenge mode version of itself which I feel is probably the thing I wanted most in the game as trying to build tank and healer type characters for lack of better terms at the moment seemed weak in comparison to the dps characters of now and had no real purpose.

Gear Sets

Main Points

  • Gear Score replaces item level on 30+ items
  • No individual talents on set items
  • New PVP set for Dark Zone
  • Obtainable from Incursion, Blueprints, Challenge Mode, Dark Zone
  • Ultimate Talent unlocked once set number of items equipped
  • Marksman Set, Healing Set, Assault Set, Tank Set

My Thoughts

The first thing I thought that was interesting was the fact they have decided to separate out the Dark Zone essentially.  By giving it a specific set of its own they have moved away from the current state of play in the game where most people are just using what they have on for both missions and Dark Zone and now are trying to make you choose in a way between taking your PVE set in to farm bosses and using the Dark Zone specific set for PVP which I assume is what it is designed for.  I am not sure I like the idea of no talents on the gear sets and one large talent once you have a number of them equipped and would probably of liked to have seen a system where the talents got better the more of the set you had on to allow hybrid builds and things like this to be played with.  I like the idea that the Gear Sets will have to built up from a number of sources to prevent the game from feeling like the only thing to do is farm incursions and has you doing things all over the map.  The replacement of the item level with gear score seemed like an obvious change that I thought should of been in game from release to allow you a better way to see a players progression more than the current system of item level and power level as a sub of that.  All in all this is probably my favourite thing to have been announced as I think the diversity that is going to brought in by having multiple roles will certainly help build a more interactive community than already exists.

Other Announcements

Main Points

  • Item Trading (share with current group)
  • Supply Drops (do not need to be extracted, heavily guarded)
  • Weekly and Daily assignments (can be completed anywhere)
  • Spectator Camera while you are dead (more useful than you might think)
  • Every Patch will have Dark Zone content

My Thoughts

Honestly there isn’t much that was announced in The Division Patch 1.1 live stream that I am not excited about other than maybe the lack of talk on the current Division Tech bottleneck in game.  The new item trading system seems like a nice compromise to me it allows a group to share loot with any other member who was in the group when said item dropped for up to 2 hours.  I like this choice as it doesn’t open the flood gates to mass trading but it incentivises people into grouping together for mutual benefit if farming for different items as a collective, as even this early into the game I am sure we have all come across that item that another needed and thought if I could I would share it with you and this is worse outside of the Dark Zone where there is no kill me out of group to get it option.  I like the idea of assignments that are side missions with no specific goal other than say kill 15 of this mob type and so these can be completed while doing incursions or daily missions or just wandering the streets collecting intel and killing mobs on the way.  The spectator camera when announced I thought meh means nothing but then I remembered those times when I got over eager and the shotgun guy on stairs paid me with a face full of buckshot and I was trying to feel useful by calling out dangers and it being a disaster with the camera auto popping back to that odd angle you have and so this will actually turn out to be more of a useful update than meets the eye.  The new supply drop looks very interesting with it dropping in the Dark Zone and being guarded by tough mobs and first to loot keeps it, it will leave you in the dilemma do we rush in and try and kill the mobs and get the loot or wait for the inevitable blood bath and kill the survivors to grab it last minute like the snake I am could get very interesting in the Dark Zone when they start dropping for sure.

All in all roll on April 12th and I will see you all in what is left of New York City Agents and make sure to leave a comment about your thoughts on The Division Patch 1.1 and pop by the stream which I will be starting on Monday after finally getting all the technical issues out of the way.  I would also appreciate a follow on my social media, etc…
